KINA FESTIVAL has been initiated in 2009 and is produced by Ishyo Arts Centre, a member of the Rwandan Association for Theatre and Youth (ARTEJ) in order to develop children and youth’s creativity and access to the Arts and at the same time, reinforce capacity and give exposure to young professionals through appropriate high-quality arts workshops and performances by renowned international artists. It will be a real joyful cultural event celebrating the youth and Culture of Rwanda and abroad under the theme: “The Art of collaboration and re-generation”.
International and regional performances have been created, selected and will be performed by youth & artists from Italy, Mozambique, South Africa, South Korea, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Congo, Belgium, Burundi, Uganda, Kenya and Democratic Republic of Congo. Rwandan youth and professional artists groups will also present their work during the festival and attend workshops and mentoring programs as well.
An international conference on “Developing theater for young audience in the African context” will take place during the festival and will bring culture and education experts (university lecturers, practitioners, and artists) from 8 countries to Rwanda to discuss the role of creativity and arts education in the children and youth’s development and in public education.
